In Gauteng, Right to Care supports 15 CCMT sites. They are:
The Themba Lethu Clinic, a division of the Medicine Department at Helen Joseph Hospital, a hospital which forms part of the academic complex of the University of the Witwatersrand, continues to grow from strength to strength, with a 33% increase in patients attending the clinic in the reporting period. It has over 14 000 patients in care, of whom 6100 are on continuous ARV treatment (as of September 2007). The aims of the focal point are to increase the early detection of TB in co-infected patients, to improve the diagnosis of TB in HIV patients, and to improve counselling and referral to local clinics for completion of treatment. The clinical team also aims to enhance the patient care of those with Multi Drug Resistant TB. Crosby Community clinic has been selected as the first down-referral site and down-referrals were started at the beginning of 2008. Down-referral sites on the West Rand have been identified and preparations are being made to begin down referral from Leratong Hospital in early 2008. In September 2006, Right to Care began supporting the Edenvale Tsakani CCMT site. The site underwent infrastructural changes from July 2007, with the first patients being seen in the completed clinic in September. The clinic has 1700 patients in care with 730 patients receiving treatment. Some of these patients were transfers from Rea’phela Clinic, when that clinic closed in August 2007. Other treatment sites supported in Gauteng include the OR Tambo Clinic in Diepsloot. It was granted accreditation by government September 2008 and has around 500 patients on treatment. Right to Care staff at this site includes the doctor, PHC nurse, professional nurse, two counsellors, data manager, data capturer, pharmacist, and pharmacist assistant. Right to Care donated four desktop computers, printer, carports for ten cars, roofing and paving. Discoverers Ekhaya Lethu CCMT has 1800 patients in care with 1800 on antiretroviral treatment. Right to Care started supporting this site in August 2008 with the staff complement of a doctor, nurse, phlebotomist, admin clerk, data manager, data capturer, four adherence, CVT, and PMTCT counsellors. Right to Care has also supported the site with medical equipment. On the East Rand, Natalspruit Faranani CCMT now has over 5000 patients on treatment. Staff complement is two doctors, two, four counsellors, PHC Nurse, data manager, four data capturers, and an admin clerk. The clinic runs from a container, which has been conditioned at Right to Care’s expense. Kopanong Hospital’s iThemba Lethu CCMT is in Vereeniging and falls in the Sedibeng district. The clinic serves the population of Sebokeng, Sharpeville, Meyerton, and Midvale, catering for adult and paediatric patients. The clinic has over 2000 patients, in care with over 1600 on treatment. Right to Care started supporting the site in September 2007. Right to Care provides the following human resources: two doctors, PHC nurse, pharmacist assistant, four counsellors, a data manager, and a data capturer. In Muldersdrift, west of Johannesburg and norther of Krugersdorp, Right to Care is support a clinic. The clinic is not easily accessed using public transport. Right to Care has supported the site with infrastructure, including nine prefabricated rooms, each with an air conditioner, two counsellors, a doctor, PHC nurse, and a data capturer. Right to Care also provided a lactic acid machine and a printer. Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital is in Mogale city. It is a district hospital which offer most services. It ha a 24-hour maternity service, a 60-bed TB ward, paediatrics unit, and medical and surgical units. The site was accredited in Mach 2008 and already has patients on treatment. Right to Care staff complement includes a doctor, professional nurse, pharmacist, data manager, four counsellors, social worker, and a dietician. Thuthukani clinic was recently accredited by the National Department of Health and caters for both paediatrics and adults. Right to Care renovated of the structure and fitted out to be a clinic. The staff complement includes both adult and paediatrics doctors, professional nurse, two counsellors, pharmacist. data manager, and data capturer. The site is also provided with desktop computers and other computer equipment. The site is using TherapyEdge. Germiston hospital was accredited in March 2007. This site is in the southern part of Ekuruleni. It has been supported by Right to Care since November 2007. Right to Care provides a doctor, phlebotomist, counsellor, data manager, printer, desktop lactic acid machine, and ongoing training of all the staff in HIV management. The site caters for both adult and paediatric patients, the latter are managed in partnership with ECHO. |
