Provider-Initiated Counselling & Testing PDF Print E-mail

Provider-initiated counselling and testing is offered at sites supported by Right to Care. It is offered to all patients presenting with opportunistic infections, like TB, and who are partners of known HIV-positive persons. Throughout the GP network, HIV testing is provided by participating general practitioners who are funded to test and refer HIV-positive individuals to the nearest CCMT site.

In the employed sector, HIV prevention education and voluntary counselling and testing (VCT) is offered on-site as part of a workplace HIV programme. Current workplace programmes include Direct AIDS Intervention Programme funded by employers and extended to contract workers. Right to Care continues to work with Trucking Against AIDS, a project of the Road Freight Industry, and has tendered to provide test kits to roadside clinics.

The VCT team is involved in home-based testing for the Housing for HIV (H4H), a programme providing VCT services to the clients of a financial services company in the housing sector. Home-based testing is also provided to the family members of school supported by a US donor.
