Dr Sibongile Zungu is an experienced healthcare executive with over 30 years’ experience in the healthcare industry. She has a broad range of experience ranging from being a practitioner, technical advisor in public health, health care advisor & consultancy, executive leadership, community leadership, social services and sitting on the boards of various Health Institutions. She has occupied leadership positions through different eras of the development of health policy in South Africa as a practitioner, a community leader, manager and executive. She is a seasoned negotiator and has received many accolades including a Martin Luther King Junior peace award for brokering peace in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) in the run up to the South African democratic era in 1994.
She has an acclaimed record in turning around broken healthcare systems in both Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal that ultimately led her holding the position of Head of Hospitals services in KZN. Her further studies assisted her to ascend to position of Deputy Director General (DDG) in charge of planning and coordinating health services in the province. She was also a DDG of Health in Mpumalanga province and her role included heading the social services.
